Military Resources
Military OneSource is a free service provided by the Department of Defense to service members and their families to help with a broad range of concerns including money management, spouse employment and education, parenting and child care, relocation, deployment, reunion, and the particular concerns of families with special-needs members. They can also include more complex issues like relationships, stress, and grief. Services are available 24 hours a day — by telephone with professionally trained consultants and online. Many Military OneSource staff members have military experience (veterans, spouses, Guardsmen, Reservists), and all receive ongoing training on military matters and military lifestyle. The program can be especially helpful to service members and their families who live at a distance from installations.

Tyler and I are trying to figure out how long his tech school is in order to plan a date for our wedding.
I've researched and I've come up with A LOT of different time frames for his particular job.
But I did find a list on the official Air Force website with approximate time frames and locations for different jobs.
I was wondering if some of you ladies could take a look at it and tell me how accurate this is to the time your man was in tech school for his job.
Here's the link: http://www.airforce.com/pdf/tech_school_locations.pdf
Thanks a lot ladies!

it's right for Will's job but he's a linguist so it's not hard to just put a time frame since there are SOOO many languages...
So I guess I'm not much help there

I'm guessing it would still be pretty hard to figure all of that out right now since he's not even in BMT yet.
With how they might not get the job they want and stuff like that, yknow?

Matt's a 1N0 and 5 months is right for him! He ended up being there almost 7 because they lost that paperwork for his security clearance but all his friends from tech were out in around 5! :)

Because he scored so high on his ASVAB, he got his choice of jobs from the beginning. He officially signed the papers to be a Loadmaster back in August, so he's guaranteed to get it! =]

Can your hubby give any more information about this?
For instance, possibly how long for the different planes?
Thanks!

What plane is he going to be a loadmaster on? He can find out for you.

This. Tech school locations will ultimately vary due to that too.

My guess is C-17s or C-130s.

Just because they score high on the ASVAB, doesn't mean they are guaranteed a job at the beginning. Nick scored high too, but didn't get his job until 3 days before he graduated BMT because the stupid recruiter lied to him. >:(
Unless they sign the papers before they go, which Tyler did, they get the job they picked. :)

Anyway, Nick goes for 69 days, so that sounds about right!!!!

My friend's husband just cross-trained as a C-130 Load. It took him six months total with no major delays. They did have normal downtime for holidays and he had some wait time between the different schools where he was able to go back home to visit family. I know it's one of the bases in TX (may be Lackland), then SERE training at Fairchild in WA, Water Survival in FL (not positive on which base) and then the C-130 schoolhouse at Little Rock AFB here in AR. The C-17 schoolhouse is in Altus, OK.

Did he go in general for a job? That could be why. Jake scored high and ended up signing his contract or whatever to be SF before he left. (I still ask him if he could have picked from many jobs why security forces ha ha)

Yeah, he went in Open General because his recruiter told him that if he puts down 8 jobs w/ open general, he would be guaranteed one of those 8 jobs. Coming to find out, IF all of those 8 jobs weren't available, then they would make him be security forces. Nick REALLY didn't want SF...And I didn't want him to have it either, lol. Apparently, if someone goes in Open General, they are highly likely to get SF. And my dummy boyfriend, even though I love him to death, didn't do any research on the position before he left. But we lucked out, and he got a job in the medical field...I love the job they picked for him, and Nick loves it too!!!!

That sounds about right, but keep in mind it could actually be longer than that because they aren't garunteed to start tech school right away after BMT. Scott graduated Oct 1st and he doesnt start his tech school until November 4th :( so this 1 month turned into 2. So keep that in mind too

Nick thought about being Aerial Gunner. Glad he didn't do it!!!!
His top 3 jobs that he REALLY wanted was Air Traffic Control, Loadmaster, and UAV Pilot Sensor Operator. But he didn't end up getting any of them. He got the one seriously last on his list.

I know 2 Air Traffic Controllers and they like it a lot! But I'm glad for you and Nick that he at least got something on his list and not something different, and I know you're very glad too! :)
