Military Resources
Military OneSource is a free service provided by the Department of Defense to service members and their families to help with a broad range of concerns including money management, spouse employment and education, parenting and child care, relocation, deployment, reunion, and the particular concerns of families with special-needs members. They can also include more complex issues like relationships, stress, and grief. Services are available 24 hours a day — by telephone with professionally trained consultants and online. Many Military OneSource staff members have military experience (veterans, spouses, Guardsmen, Reservists), and all receive ongoing training on military matters and military lifestyle. The program can be especially helpful to service members and their families who live at a distance from installations.

Questions!
I didnt know where to put this so...yeah.

Havent heard from him yet, he left 2 weeks ago. Normal?
If we (his parents and I) have no address, is that normal?
Should I call Reception and ask for it?
And if I never hear from him, is that normal too?

Also...when do they find out where they get based?
What are the chances of getting based where they want?
What determines where they are based?

I am a control-freak and really worry about stuff in the future so this adjustment has been so hard on me!
If anyone can answer even just one I'd be so glad :)

1. Yes, it's normal if you haven't heard from him yet.
2. Call the reception center and tell them you haven't gotten a postcard yet from him, you must need his social security number though & they'll give it to you.
3. If his flight isn't doing good, he won't be able to call you. A lot of the calling/writing they do depends on how good everyone is doing as a whole. (plus it depends on the TI).
4. They won't find out where they're going until Tech School (some find out in the first few weeks some find out at the end of tech, but nothing is for sure until he gets a hard copy).
5. Many people get bases they want to go (or that's on their dream sheet) but many also don't get the base they want.
6. The AF looks at the Airmans dream sheet and will see if they need anyone at those bases for the job they have. If not they get sent somewhere else.

For example: My husband signed up for all these awesome bases, but ended up in North Dakota. Trust me North Dakota wasn't on the list AT ALL! Long story short Minot got rid of a ton of cops earlier in the year and need replacements (my husband and majority of his friends from tech). But not even a year later we ended up getting a different assignment. And this time it's somewhere on his dream sheet :)

So you just never know, it's all 50/50. I actually loved Minot and don't want to leave :( lol.

His parents gave me his address and I sent off all my letters and such!

Thank you so much, that was really helpful!
Are there only certain bases for certain jobs?
For example, DB went into the air force to do firefighting.
Do you know if only certain bases provide that job?

I'm pretty sure his job can probably go anywhere. :) But some bases you have to be a certain level to work at.

Here is some info on his job
http://usmilitary.about.com/od/airforceenlistedjobs/a/afjob3e7x1.htm

Oh and some bases you have to have certain security clearances.. Like to work at a nuke base you need to have a PRP clearance.

I believe you're able to tell when a airman left for basic. He wasn't leaving on deployment. I know many people who say when whoever left for basic.

My boyfriend is at BMT were half way through it right now. Time really will fly by, well some days it will, but you'll of course have your bad days. His flight has some f*** ups and he doesnt get to write letter yet, its almost week 5. He sneaks them off along with others. Since he's been there he's been allowed to write twice and call once. For my bf's flight his MTI lets them call on saturdays, IF they've been good. Well as ive said he's called once. Hopefully ill get one tomorrow but keep your fingers crossed your bf's flight works together!

I'm actually dealing pretty good. School keeps me very very busy. It takes up about 95% of my time. Some day are worse than others though. The worst was the 1st week. Nick is in week 4, so I am almost half over with all the waiting!

I've gotten 3 phone calls so far; one 15 minutes, 5 minutes, and 20 minutes. And I have 3 letters and he told me yesterday that he just sent another Sunday, so it should be here tomorrow. So if you are just over week 2, you should be getting mail soon!
