Military Resources
Military OneSource is a free service provided by the Department of Defense to service members and their families to help with a broad range of concerns including money management, spouse employment and education, parenting and child care, relocation, deployment, reunion, and the particular concerns of families with special-needs members. They can also include more complex issues like relationships, stress, and grief. Services are available 24 hours a day — by telephone with professionally trained consultants and online. Many Military OneSource staff members have military experience (veterans, spouses, Guardsmen, Reservists), and all receive ongoing training on military matters and military lifestyle. The program can be especially helpful to service members and their families who live at a distance from installations.

PostSubject: Tech School   Fri Sep 03, 2010 11:11 pm

I was wondering if anyone knew if while they are at tech school they have off for the holidays, ie thanksgiving or can leave on the weekends? My bf is currently in BMT and were planning to get married while he's in tech school so this would be very helpful in picking a destination. TY

He gets so many weeks (I wanna say close to two and half weeks) off for Christmas. Thanksgiving he'll probably get a few days off but have to stay around the area. In tech school they go by a phase system.

Phase 1: NOT allowed off base, I don't know anyone whose been able to get off base (unless it's Christmas and they have to go home).
Phase 2: Allowed off base until 9-10(weekdays) Midnight (weekends). They aren't allowed in hotel rooms unless they have special permission (but if you aren't married they usually won't allow it, I visited Jake in tech school & it was Easter weekend they said no!).
Phase 3: Allowed off base, can travel up to 150 miles on weekends/holidays. Only have a curfew during Sun-Thursday, 10am.

They can get on lockdowns & easily get phased back (I've seen it happen plenty of times). Some guys are just stupid and don't care.

I am hoping Nick goes to tech school in Keesler, MS. His two top jobs he picked, Loadmaster and ATC, put him in Keesler. And with Keesler only being an hour and a half away from where I am at, he will be allowed home during phase 3 on weekends. And I found out he will defantly be allowed home for Christmas too!

Me too! It would make me SO happy!
But, unfortuantley, the military does what makes it happy first. So I'm not getting my hopes up too high.

Yeah, it's right on the Ocean. I went on vacation there a "few" years ago when my mom lived down there. It's pretty :)

If you're 21 they have casinos

Oh, ok! I've been there plenty of times. Yeah, it's pretty. And lots of LOTS of stuff to do. It's a pretty big city. A lot of it was destroyed in Katrina a few years ago, but mostly every thing has been rebuilt.

It deffinatly depends on the Tech School and the length of the Tech School.
I know here at the Presidio if you aren't already married, you have to take a 12 week marriage counceling class before you can get married. Will [my husband] has weekends off and time off for holidays, like just this last weekend he had 4 days off for Columbus day.
Since his tech school is a year long I got to move out here with him, so I feel lucky in that case, because I don't have to be without him for a year and we can live together!!!
