Day One. Thursday. Airman's Run. Coin Ceremony. Base Liberty.

The day started off with the Airman's Run. I was so excited my heart was pounding. It was so surreal to be on the base where Tyler had spent the last 8.5 weeks of his life. To know Tyler would be running by me at any moment and that he would literally be less than a few feet from me gave me chills. I saw the Airmen coming over the hill and I immediately started to tear up. The Airmen ran by twice singing their jodies. It was so cool!!! Sadly, I wasn't actually able to spot Tyler. But knowing that he was in that group just made my heart pound!

After the Airman's Run, I went over to the retreat pad where the Coin Ceremony would take place. I met up with other girls who had men in Tyler's flight. We basically just hung out and talked about how excited we were for the events of the day. I noticed a lady in front of us and asked her which squadron and flight her guy was from. She was there for her son and it turned out he was in the same squadron and flight as well. She made a comment about how "BMT is so much different now from when I enlisted." So I asked her about her Air Force career and she turned out to be a retired O-4 Major who had served for 21 years! She was incredibly helpful and extremely sweet. She even gave me advice for when I become and Air Force wife and it comes time to move! I'm hoping to run into her again tomorrow so I can get her contact information because I would like to stay in touch with her because she was so knowledgeable and so sweet. Finally, the coin ceremony started. And man, I can't even tell you how many times I cried! I cried when they were walking onto the retreat pad, when they were receiving their coins and when they stated the Airman's Creed. Sitting in those stands and hearing everything that was being said, I swear my heart filled with pride more and more by the second. I have never been so proud of anyone in my life. I kept thinking about how much Tyler had achieved in the last 8.5 weeks and I felt so lucky to have the honor of calling him my friend, my Airman and the love of my life. ♥ Again, I wasn't able to actually spot Tyler during the ceremony because he was in the center of his entire flight. When they finally released us to find our Airman, I walked as quickly as my legs could carry me to his flight. His mom and I looked every direction for him and suddenly, out of the corner of my left eye, I saw him. I swear to God my head just about fell off I whipped it around so fast. I yelled to his mom "I see him!!!" and grabbed her arm and yanked her with me. As soon as I started approaching him, he looked right at me and smiled. At that moment, I just let go of his mom, dropped my bag and launched myself at him in a hug. It felt like as soon as I touched him, his arms were immediately around me in a tight hug, like he absolutely couldn’t wait to hold me. I stood up on my tiptoes, kissed his cheek and whispered “I love you” and hugged him again. And then I heard this voice say “Hi Caitlin!” I let go of Tyler and looked to my left and saw another Airman smiling right at me. So I said “You must be Andrew, Tyler’s Wingman.” He said “Yes ma’am. Can you please tap me?” So I tapped his shoulder and he relaxed and thanked me. I asked him if he had family at the ceremony and he told me “No, not today but they’re coming tomorrow.” Since Andrew’s family wasn’t there today, he stayed with us and hung out. He is so awesome! I had written him a letter during BMT and he wrote me back, so we were already on friendly terms. The entire day, he played this game with me where he’d point out people in uniforms and quiz me on their rank. He couldn’t believe how well I knew them! =P All of us went to Popeye’s for lunch, the Air Force History Museum and Taco John’s for dinner. The entire time, Tyler kept trying to reach for my hand and I kept trying to reach for his. It was so cute because we’re just in the habit of holding hands EVERYWHERE we go! But the PDA rule wasn’t bad at all. He escorted me everywhere and put his hand on my knee under tables and held my hand for a few seconds when he could hide it well and he’d always come up behind me and put his hand on my back. So it was just enough affection to let me know that he missed me, but not enough that it was overly obvious. And of course, in the car, we were able to actually hold hands and sneak a few kisses in. =)

Here are some of the cool things (in my opinion) that I got to experience today. I had more doors opened for me and I was called “ma’am” more times today alone than my whole life combined. People are so polite and extremely helpful. I even approached a TI (who I didn’t know was a TI at the time) to ask him about one of the ceremonies. He couldn’t answer my question himself, but he immediately pulled out his cell phone and contacted two other TIs to find out an answer for me. He was incredibly helpful! Another cool thing I got to experience was the Airmen recognizing Officers. Anytime an Officer walks by an Airman and the Airman obviously notices the Officer, they are supposed to stand at attention and say “Good morning/afternoon/evening, Sir/Ma’am.” When the Officer acknowledges the Airman back, they can return to ease position. So I’d be talking to Tyler or Andrew and all of the sudden, their eyes would leave me, they’d go into immediate Military mode, stand at attention and acknowledge the Officer. It was just awesome to see that kind of respect and discipline. The next thing I thought was interesting was the way the Airmen behaved toward one another. Even if the Airmen didn’t know each other, every time they were in close vicinity to another Airman, they would say “Congratulations, Sir/Airman.” It was almost used as a way to say hello, excuse me and thank you. I thought it was neat that even though they were all on the same level, they still showed respect for their fellow Airman. It made me so proud of Tyler every time I heard him say it or heard someone say it to him.

And the cutest moment of the day was when Tyler and I were talking over dinner. He told me that over the last 8.5 weeks, he’s learned for sure that he never wants to be without me. He said “Every day for the last 2 months, I’ve been thinking about you and marriage and our future together and I couldn’t be more excited for it than I am now.” I expressed my concerns about his Loadmaster job and the fact that he’d be away a lot. He informed me that a lot of the missions are volunteer and he promised me he wouldn’t volunteer an insane amount of time (like the 300 days a year that I know one Loadmaster was away). I started to cry and told him “It feels wrong for me to ask you to go away less because I know that’s what you want. And you should do what you want. I don’t want to hold you back.” And his response was “What I want has changed. When I signed on to be a Loadmaster, we weren’t even together. I only had myself to think about. If we had been together then, I would’ve picked a different job. Because now that I have you, you’re all I want. You’re the only thing I want. And more than anything, I want you to be happy. And I’d do absolutely anything to make you happy. Including taking less missions because you’re number one to me. I can’t imagine going through my life without you. It just wouldn’t feel right.” ♥

All in all, it was an absolutely amazing day. I’ll update tomorrow with day two! =)

Yay
You're THERE!
You described it all so well!
I remember the moment when you first hear them singing but you cant see them yet!
It's so exciting!
I remember how the Airmen act to higher ranking officers and to each other, I forgot about how polite everyone was, it was cool.
And when they say Congrats to your man, you just feel so proud, right?!
It was funny hearing Nick be called sir.
Ah you brought back so many memories!!
The PDA thing is JUST like what Nick and I did haha we snuck lots of stuff like you did, even *GASP* a kisss in PUBLIC! Hahah we dared to at 6 Flags :P
Over Exodus I kept grabbing his left arm to be escorted just like at BMT and he was like, "love, this isn't BMT grad, we can hold hands" and I was like, uh whoops! Haha we were attached like that the entire 4 days of BMT grad.

I'm just so happy for you to be there!!! And jealous, I want to relive that weekend over and over again!!

Awwww!
That is so awesome!!!!!!!

I'm glad you paid attention to the ceremony too. I know I didn't, lol. I was sooo proud of Nick, but I was just ready to jump over the side of the bleacher and tackle him. He said the same thing, lol. He said he hated the coin ceremony/graduation because he just wanted to run over to me.

That's exactly how I felt when I saw the run too! I felt so giddy when I heard the jodies, and then saw them coming over that bridge. It was like "OMG, I CAN'T BELIEVE I FINALLY GET TO SEE HIM!"
They are actually supposed to tell every Airman they see "Congrats Airman". Nick said his TI told him they had to do it.
I know what you mean about the "m'am" thing! Being in Louisiana, we have to say "m'am" and "sir" allll the time, but I had to get Nick and his friends to stop calling me "m'am", lol.
It made me feel old.
:P

I told ya the PDA really wasn't that bad!
I am sooooo happy for you!!!!
Treasure every moment you have with him!
HAVE FUN!!!!

If the younger people where I live at don't say it, we get in trouble for being disrespectful to our elders. One of my older brothers is about 25, and I have to call him "sir", lol.
When I went to Illinois, I was calling everyone "ma'am" or "sir", and they kept making fun of me for it, lol.
And every time I said "Y'all".

Don't feel bad, Nick's TI wouldn't let Nick escort me either OR let him kiss me real quick when we first saw each other.

Sorry I didn't do a daily update as planned. After getting up at the butt crack of dawn and then spending all day running around, I was pooped at night and just crashed. =P

So here's the scoop. Honestly, graduation weekend did not go as well as planned. =/ We got zero alone time. We had to take advantage of 30 seconds alone in the car to even get a good kiss. I was pissed about it and it definitely caused some issues because both Tyler and I were irritated that no one had the decency to give us any time with peace and quiet. And then on Saturday, his mom pulled a bitch move and cornered me in the restroom and basically told me to back off. Yeah...that did not go over well. I listened to her though and kind of backed off and stayed quiet all day and lagged behind the rest of the group to give them family time. Tyler noticed something was up and told me that I didn't need to distance myself and so I told him what his mom did and he was pissed. It caused major issues with everyone because she decided to be a bitch. Tyler and I even fought because there was just so much tension. I cried a lot that day.

Sunday was a little better. His family didn't get on base until noon, so we hid in a corner of the mini mall to talk. We decided that we're gonna get married while he's still in tech school. He wants me to fly back down to Lackland within the next two months and he'll pop the question then. And then we'll probably have a little courthouse ceremony in either Oklahoma or Arkansas, depending on where he finishes tech school. So that's definitely something to look forward to. =)

Coming back home has been extremely hard for me. I cried and cried and cried when I had to say goodbye. Tyler said once he got back to the dorm on Sunday night, he just broke down and cried too. And being back home has sucked...my parents and their issues and my dad and his stupid crap he always does...it's like reality has slapped me in the face. I just wish I could rewind and make last weekend a better weekend and never come back home.

I just don't wanna be here anymore. I'm already tired of the AF crap and I have 5 more years to deal with it. =/ *sigh...*

He hadn't bought a ring before going to BMT and didn't have time to do it while he was there. Plus, he wants to tell his family that he's proposing first before he actually does it.
